Bretagne classic ouest-france

Oliver Naesen, the Plouay’s man

08/15/2019

In two years, he became the living incarnation of the Bretagne Classic - Ouest-France. Winner of the first edition in 2016, recidivist in 2018, the Belgian Oliver Naesen is the man of the breton race. The leader of Ag2r La Mondiale will be the huge favorite of a race made for him.

Oliver Naesen is the antagonist of Peter Sagan. Where the Slovak complains of a too hard race, contested in conditions too difficult for him, the Belgian shows his bravery, his strength and his ability to tame the elements to win a classic counting as one of the the most demanding races of the WorldTour. For the fourth edition of Bretagne Classic - Ouest-France, Ag2r La Mondiale will count on his champion to succeed an unprecedented triple at Plouay.

Iconic team of frenchcycling for twenty years, the team of Vincent Lavenu is of course a reference to Plouay. The team has been present every year since its creation in 1992. It has won twice with Andy Flickinger in 2003 and Oliver Naesen in 2018.

We note that Vincent Lavenu himself was a faithful Plouay during his career that lasted from 1983 to 1991. He came eight times race in the town of Morbihan where he ranked 15th in 1989, the year of introduction of Ty Marrec'shill. Vincent Lavenu also lived the 1984 French Championship as part of the UNCPF team.

Oliver Naesen well surrounded

Ag2r La Mondiale presented its first list of riders scheduled to Plouay under the direction of the sports director Cyril Dessel.

1. Oliver Naesen (Bel, 28). The greatest expert of the Bretagne Classic, winner in the rain and wind in 2016 and 2018, is a man made for hard races. Knowing how to take responsibility, this character racer will be the man to beat. 2nd in Milan-San Remo, 3rd in Gent-Wevelgem, 7th in the Tour of Flanders, 8th in the E3 Grand Prix, 10th in the Het Nieuwsblad, 13th in Paris-Roubaix ... The Belgian has a beautiful spring. The harder the Plouaysian race will be, the more likely is to see him win again.

2. Gediminas Bagdonas (Ltu, 33). Loyal teammate, the Lithuanian will be a valuable partner to lead his leader to victory. He will live his third participation in Plouay.

3. Benoit Cosnefroy (Fra, 23). 9th in 2018, the young French will be one of the strongest men on his team. After promising debut for his discovery of the great breton classic, he will be expected alongside Oliver Naesen.

4. Tony Gallopin (Fra, 31). Faithful to Plouay, the French will be there for the ninth time at the start of the breton race. He will be a key element of the system put in place by his team to retain the title on the Bretagne Classic.

5. Alexis Gougeard (Fra, 26). Often in view of the breakaways during classics, the Frenchman will also be a valuable teammate for Oliver Naesen.

6. Aurélien Paret-Peintre (Fra, 23). Still learning the highest level, the neo-professional will discover the Bretagne Classic in a team coming to win. It will be a great experience for him to support his leader.

7. Stijn Vandenbergh (Bel, 35). The experienced Oliver Naesen's compatriot will be there to support his leader. Specialists of great classics and difficult races, he will be in Brittany to lead his leader to victory.

The announced substitutes are Samuel Dumoulin (Fra), Julien Duval (Fra), Alexandre Geniez (Fra) and Lawrence Warbasse (Usa).
