Team Sunweb ready for Plouay


A team for win Plouay

Present every year since 2010, the Team Sunweb will return to Plouay for the 10th time on Sunday 1st September. It will this time for finally succeed to win the Brittany Classic - Ouest-France. With the Australian Michael Matthews, the germanteam will be considered among the big favorites of the day.

4th in 2016, 5th in 2017 and 4th in 2018, Michael Matthews missed none of the first three editions of Bretagne Classic - Ouest-France. At the head of Team Sunweb, the Australian has twice won the sprint of the peloton arriving for the 4th place following the victories of Oliver Naesen and his companions.

High-class rider, with the typical profile of the rider capable of winning Plouay, Michael Matthews will be one of the huge favorites of the day. With 23 wins in WorldTour, Team Sunweb leader is one of the most prolific in the international peloton. In preparation for the World Championship, on which he has already won silver medal (2015) and bronze medal (2017), he will take advantage of the bretontest to face a course comparable to that which will be proposed in the Yorkshire.

Presenting a formidable collective with two leaders and some strong teammates, Team Sunweb will be in Plouaywith all the best cards to succeed in that great race.


Michael Matthews and Søren Kragh Andersen as leaders


Team Sunweb presented its first list of riders scheduled to Plouay under the direction of the sporting director Matthew Winston.
201. Asbjørn Kragh Andersen (Den, 27). Strong teammate, the Dane will be there to support his brother Søren and Michael Matthews in a team that will be counted among the big favorites.

202. Søren Kragh Andersen (Den, 25). Impressive rouleur, the young Dane also has qualities of classic runner as evidenced by his 11th place on the last Gent-Wevelgem. He must be considered as one of the best outsiders.
203. Jan Bakelants (Bel, 33). The experienced Belgian will be a master card in the game of the Team Sunweb. With him, his leaders will count on a strong man. But beware, the Flemish can also anticipate and play the leading role by taking advantage of the hilly roads of Bretagne Classic.
204. Roy Curvers (Ned, 39). One of the oldest rider of the peloton, 12th in Plouay in 2015, will put his science of the race for the benefit of his leaders.
205. Michael Matthews (Aus, 29). In the first three editions of Brittany Classic, he placed 4th, 5th and 4th. The talented Australian will be among the huge favorites of the day. He certainly deserves to put his name on the list of the biggest race in Brittany. Only beaten by the escaped in 2016 and 2018, the champion from Team Sunweb will probably anticipate if he wants to win. 

206. Joris Nieuwenhuis (Ned, 23). The young cyclo-crossman, world champion U23 in 2017, continues his apprenticeship in the WorldTour. The gravel sections in Roudouallec will not scare him, he could be the revelation of the day. 

207. Louis Vervaeke (Bel, 25). The Belgian will also be there as a teammate to support his leaders.
The announced substitutes are Chad Haga (Usa), Florian Stork (Ger) and Johannes Fröhlinger (Ger).
